Learn MoreArea Wide Fencing serves Winona Lake homeowners, lakefront property owners, and businesses with vinyl fencing, chain-link, lakefront railing, and custom deck installations in Kosciusko County.
Winona Lake sits directly adjacent to Warsaw, which means it's the area we know as well as anywhere in our service territory. The town is anchored by Grace College and the Winona Lake community itself, a well-established year-round residential area built around the lake. We've installed fences and railing on properties throughout the town, from the Grace College-adjacent neighborhoods to lakefront lots on the south shore. The proximity to Warsaw means we're here regularly, and turnaround from estimate to installation is typically faster than in markets farther out.
Lakefront railing and dock fencing are the dominant requests for properties on Winona Lake's shoreline. Residential vinyl privacy fencing is popular throughout the town's neighborhoods. The Grace College campus area and adjacent residential streets generate steady demand for both standard residential installations and light commercial work.
We offer a full range of fence installation and supply services throughout Kosciusko County.

Learn MoreWinona Lake is an incorporated town with its own building authority through Winona Lake Town Hall. Properties inside town limits go through the town's permit process. Properties in the surrounding Kosciusko County township use the Kosciusko County Area Plan Commission. Any project within 10 feet of the ordinary high water mark of Winona Lake requires an Indiana DNR LARE permit before local permits are filed.
For properties inside Winona Lake town limits, contact Winona Lake Town Hall. For unincorporated Kosciusko County parcels, contact the Kosciusko County Area Plan Commission at 117 N. Winona Lake has a range of neighborhood types, from established lakefront communities with informal property owner associations to newer residential streets without formal HOA governance. Properties near the Grace College campus may have additional considerations around access and visual impact. Check your specific neighborhood's rules before ordering materials.
Winona Lake's soil conditions mirror Warsaw's closely, which makes sense given that the two communities sit on the same glacial lake bed geology. Upland properties in the town's residential neighborhoods have loam and clay loam that supports standard post installation reliably. The frost line in Kosciusko County runs 36 to 42 inches, and we always set to the deeper end of that range.
Shoreline properties on Winona Lake are a different situation. The land right at the water is frequently sandy, saturated, or both. Standard concrete post-setting in those conditions doesn't hold. We use helical anchors and concrete bell footings on every Winona Lake shoreline job. The anchoring adds cost, but it's the only method that stays put through spring thaw.
The lake itself sits at a low point in the topography, and properties near the shore experience seasonal water table fluctuations. Spring thaw and heavy rain push water up fast. We schedule lakefront installations with that seasonality in mind and plan for the conditions we'll actually find on site.
Winona Lake is one of Kosciusko County's most active year-round lake communities, sitting immediately east of Warsaw. The shoreline has a mix of established cottages, renovated year-round homes, and properties that have been in families for generations. The lake connects to the broader Warsaw lake system, and many of the same DNR and permitting rules that apply to Center Lake and Pike Lake apply here.
Winona Lake is a community-centered lake with year-round residential development along most of its shoreline. Grace College's campus borders the north and west sides of the lake. DNR LARE permits are required for any structure within 10 feet of the ordinary high water mark. Soil near the shore is sandy and requires adapted installation methods on every shoreline project.
Center Lake sits within Warsaw city limits just west of Winona Lake. Properties near Center Lake have the same DNR shoreline setback requirements. Lot lines on Center Lake are often narrow, which makes exact setback compliance and neighbor communication important for any shoreline installation.
Pike Lake is southwest of Warsaw with a mix of seasonal and year-round properties. It shares the same sandy shoreline soil conditions as Winona Lake. DNR LARE review applies for any structure within 10 feet of the ordinary high water mark.
Indiana DNR requires a permit for any structure within 10 feet of the ordinary high water mark of a public freshwater lake under Indiana Code 14-26-2. This applies to Winona Lake, Center Lake, and Pike Lake. The Indiana DNR Region 3 office, located in Warsaw, is the primary contact for Kosciusko County lakefront permits. Start the LARE application before filing any local building permit, as DNR review typically takes longer than the town or county process.
Aluminum railing on docks, decks, and waterfront terraces is the most common project type we handle on Winona Lake properties. Aluminum handles the shoreline moisture environment far better than wood or steel, and it stays true through the freeze-thaw cycles that damage other materials. We anchor every shoreline railing installation using methods appropriate for sandy or saturated lakeshore soil.
Winona Lake's residential streets, including the neighborhoods near Grace College, generate steady demand for vinyl privacy and picket fencing. Homeowners here want low-maintenance options that fit the established character of the community. White and tan vinyl are the most common choices.
Property owners on and near Winona Lake regularly invest in outdoor living upgrades. We build decks and install railing for both lakefront homes with views of the water and upland properties that want to extend their usable outdoor space. Lakefront deck railing must meet Indiana DNR setback requirements and be anchored for shoreline soil conditions.
The commercial areas near the US-30 corridor and the light industrial properties in the broader Warsaw area generate consistent chain-link fencing work. Winona Lake's proximity to Warsaw means we handle nearby commercial projects as part of the same scheduled work in the area.

“We had Area Wide put in a 6-foot vinyl privacy fence along the back property line and both sides of our yard. The quote was accurate to the penny and the crew finished in two days. Our dogs finally can't get out (if you've met our younger one, you know that's no small thing). We've already recommended Josh to two neighbors.”
“We have a cottage on Wawasee that needed new railing on the dock and a fresh deck off the back of the house. Josh came out, walked the whole property, and flagged a few things the previous owner had done that weren't up to code. He was upfront about what we needed and why. The aluminum railing on the dock has held up beautifully through two winters now.”
“We manage a storage yard off the bypass in Elkhart and needed about 400 feet of 8-foot chain-link with a drive gate on one end. Area Wide came out fast, gave us a competitive quote, and had the whole thing done in three days. The gate latches solidly, the posts are set properly, and it hasn't shifted at all. Straightforward to deal with from start to finish.”
“I wanted a classic white picket fence across the front of my property without the headache of maintaining wood. Josh helped me pick the right panel style for the look I was going for and the installation was clean and fast. Every post is perfectly plumb. You can tell this crew has done it a few thousand times. Very happy with how the yard looks now.”
“We were trying to define the property line along the shoreline of our Maxinkuckee lot without blocking the view or running into trouble with the lake association. Josh knew exactly what was and wasn't allowed and designed a low aluminum fence that works perfectly. The sandy soil right at the water's edge wasn't a problem. He used the right anchoring method and everything is solid.”
“We had Area Wide build a 14x18 composite deck off the back of our house. From the permit to the final walkthrough it was handled professionally. Josh flagged a grade issue in our yard that would have caused drainage problems under the deck if we hadn't addressed it. Something we never would have caught ourselves. The deck is solid, level, and looks exactly like we hoped. Worth every dollar.”
“We had 180 feet of old rotted wood fence along our alley that had been falling apart for years. Area Wide pulled the old posts, hauled everything off, and had new vinyl up in a day and a half. No mess left behind, and the new fence is exactly what we needed. The crew showed up when they said they would and got right to it. Couldn't ask for better.”
“Had them build a 12x16 pressure-treated deck with aluminum railing. Josh gave us a clear quote with no surprises. The crew worked through a rainy stretch and still finished on schedule. Railing is solid and looks sharp. No issues since install, and we use the deck constantly in the summer.”
“We needed railing on our dock platform on Lake Manitou. Josh knew the DNR permit requirements ahead of time and walked us through the process before we started anything. The aluminum railing has been up through a full Indiana winter and looks the same as it did on day one. Solid work and no guessing games along the way.”
“Got 6-foot chain-link across the back and one side of a rental property we manage. The price was fair and the work was good. Took about a week longer than the original estimate because of a materials delay, but Josh called ahead to let us know. Good communication and a clean result. Would use them again.”
“We had Area Wide run 800 feet of high-tensile perimeter fence around part of our Marshall County property. They handled the heavy clay and uneven terrain without any issues. Posts are set well, fence is tight, and everything held up through a wet spring. Good crew, good price, no complaints.”
“Needed about 600 feet of 8-foot chain-link with barbed wire around a storage yard we lease on the north side of Elkhart. Area Wide gave us a competitive quote and had it installed in four days. The work was exactly what we asked for, the gate operates smoothly, and the posts aren't going anywhere. Reliable contractor.”
